Description:
There is evidence that truffles were harvested in Osona as early as 1675, when they were sent from Vic to the house of the Viceroy of Catalonia in Barcelona. At the beginning of the 19th century, in the 1820s, Joan Soler, a resident of Centelles living in the Plaza Mayor of the town, became the first truffle merchant. His activity marked the beginning of an increasingly structured and profitable business, driven by the arrival of the road and the railroad, which expanded its geographical reach. Centelles always maintained a leading role in this trade, and towards the end of the 19th century, its market set the benchmark price for truffles throughout the State (Source: Centelles Town Council).
